What is LIFI ?
LiFi or Light Fidelity is a high-speed optical wireless technology that uses visible light to transmit data(INTERNET). The company was started by Professor Herald Haas in 2012 is known as pureLifi. The term LiFi was coined in 2011 by Professor Harald Haas, a German scientist.
This bidirectional communication technology provides higher bandwidth, efficiency, and a more secure means of communication than radio technology such as Wi-Fi or cellular. LiFi is able to achieve a data transfer rate of up to 224 Gbps.
LiFi or light fidelity is almost similar to WiFi technology but it is one of the future wireless communication technologies. The main feature of this technology includes fully networked, bidirectional, and high-speed wireless transmission of data.
LiFi or Light Fidelity is best for providing internet connectivity in environments with a range of about 10 meters. This technology uses LED bulbs to transfer and share data. LED light bulbs emit light pulses that are undesirable to the human eye and are transmitted along with the data of those emitted pulses and from the receiver. These optical receivers collect information and interpret the transmitted data.

How LIFI works ?
LiFi or Light Fidelity is a visible light communications system and the speed of this system is very high. Li-Fi uses normal LED lights to allow the data to transfer up to the speed of 224 Gigabits/sec. The data transmission of this technology can be done through illumination. The essential devices of this system are light-emitting diodes.
The company started by Professor Herald Haas in 2012 known as pureLifi
LiFi or Light Fidelity works on the principle of a visible light communications system that transmits wireless data (Internet) at very high speeds.
The technology creates an LED light bulb emitting pulses of light that are undesirable to the human eye and can travel to and from the data receiver, within those emitted pulses.
Then, the LiFi or Light Fidelity receivers collect information and interpret the transmitted data. This is ideologically similar to decoding Morse code, but at a much faster rate – millions of times in a second.
LiFi transmission speeds can exceed 100-300 Gbps, which is 14 times faster than WIFI, LIFI is also known as the world’s fastest wireless network system.
LiFi or Light Fidelity technology mainly consists of two parts such as transmitter and receiver.
The input signal on the transmitter section can be modified with a certain time period, then send data using LED bulbs in the form of 0 and 1. Here, the brightness of LED bulbs is indicated with 0 and 1. At the receiver end, a photodiode is used to receive the LED flash which strengthens the signal and gives the output.
The receiver section includes a LED photodiode as well as an amplifier. Here, the LED-photodiode receives the brightness of the LED bulb, then converts the brightness into electrical signals. Finally, the amplifier receives the signal from the LED-photodiode and amplifies it to provide output.
Benefits of LIFI over WIFI:
What are the advantages of using LIFI technology or we can say what are the benefits of LIFI, basically we can say there are many benefits of LIFI data transmission technology By using LiFi in all lights in and around a building, the technology can enable the greater area of coverage than a single WiFi router?
Higher speeds than Wi-Fi almost 224 Gigabits/sec.
The light of the Li-Fi doesn’t work through the partition, therefore, it is more protected from intruders and hacking is not possible.
Almost 500-1000 times the radio frequency spectrum.
The speed of the LiFi is very high, we can stream high-quality videos without buffering.
More secure as compared to wifi because data cannot be intercepted without a clear line of sight(cannot be stolen).
Does not cause interference in sensitive electronics, making it better for use in environments such as hospitals and aircraft.
There are also some Health benefits of LiFi technology, as we know radio waves are harmful to humans as well as for the animals and birds, in lifi the data is transferred through light, so basically, no question arises of harmful radiations Risk-free-Li-Fi utilizes light waves which are harmless.
LIFI or Light Fidelity is also used in the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) if you want to know more about Why Artificial Intelligence is important
What is the Future of LIFI technology?
As per the future, the major application of LIFI technology is in the field of the modern world is!!
LIFI for Security:
When you are looking for a secure and private Internet connection, LiFi has an advantage over the WiFi network. Since light is blocked by walls, the data transmitted by this method will be more private and secure. On the other hand, WiFi is a network prone to hacking as the radio-frequency operating area is wide and cannot be blocked by walls. So, which means that you no longer have to worry about snooping neighbors who try to break your internet connection without paying for it.
LiFi is more secure and provides additional privacy as compared to wifi because the light is blocked by walls and therefore provides more secure and fast data transfer because light cannot travel through walls and due to this hackers or intruders cannot access your internet.
In the case of Wi-Fi, the network is at risk of being hacked because it has a wide reach and radio frequency signals cannot be blocked by walls.
LIFI for Internet of Things (IOT):
Due to LIFI’s impressive speed, LiFi or Light Fidelity can have a great impact on the Internet of Things (IoT). With data being transferred at a higher level, even more, Internet-enabled devices will be able to connect to each other with great speed and ease.
LIFI or Light Fidelity for the Internet of Things has the ability to transport data to different terminals without the need for interaction between humans and humans or between humans and computers. In the current era driven world, where modernization has become a topic of discussion for businesses.
The Internet of Things has evolved into a revolutionary advancement, that is, connectivity, communication, and information between different bases and remote terminals on different grounds have been promoted. Their level of interaction with internal, as well as external, environments has been increased drastically over a period of time.
LIFI for Artificial Intelligence
We think In the future, Artificial Intelligence will replace or enhance human capabilities in many areas. Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human intelligence into machines that are programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions.
The term can also be applied to any machine that exhibits symptoms associated with the human mind such as learning and problem-solving. Artificial intelligence is becoming a popular field in computer science because it has enhanced human life in many fields such as Artificial Intelligence in healthcare.
Over the past decades, artificial intelligence has greatly improved the performance of manufacturing and service systems. The application areas of Artificial Intelligence are having a huge impact on various walks of life as advanced computing systems are widely used these days to solve complex problems in various fields such as science, engineering, business, medicine, weather forecasting, healthcare, neuralink and many more.
Areas employing the technology of Artificial Intelligence have seen an increase in quality, speed, accuracy, and efficiency. We are currently using mobile networks like WIFI, 4g, radio networks to interact with our people, community, and machines.
Here’s the new member of the wireless data transmission family is Li-Fi or Light Fidelity, which uses the concept of flickering light faster than the human eye’s ability is used for data transmission LiFi or light fidelity is almost similar to WiFi technology but it is one of the future wireless communication technologies. As we know that the speed of light is much higher than the existing wireless data transmission technology, it is like achieving the speed of fiber optics in wireless communication.
The technology of LIFI or Light Fidelity can also be used in the development of futuristic inventions such as Neuralink, Quantum Computers and many more, the application of LIFI or Light Fidelity is very high in day to day life because of its ease of use, also check our latest blogs on Neuralink in Healthcare development
