Google Pixel Buds A Series
There is a whole whack of competition in the wireless earbud space right now and Google is adding to the pile with these Google Pixel Buds A Series.
let me tell you something if you are a manufacturer of wireless earbuds or you’re a company trying to make wireless earbuds and you’re releasing a new product here in 2021.
In order for a company like Google to stand out amongst all these other brands, they really needed to make something great and you know what I think they did I think they made a very compelling set of wireless earbuds that I could recommend to almost anyone.
These are so compelling is that they’re very affordable google is selling them for around 99 us dollars which undercuts a whole lot of the popular wireless earbuds that I’ve tested to date.
Google Pixel Buds A Series is much cheaper than the original pixel buds and they still have most of the same features if you’re familiar with the original pixel buds that were released back in 2020 the series doesn’t look much different.
On the outside instead of the black accenting they’ve gone with a light gray for the white version of the Google Pixel Buds A-Series and dark green for the other color I prefer the look of the Google Pixel Buds A Series actually they’ve got that clean google vibe.
and although they still look like you’ve stuck two mentos in your ears it’s still a better look than most other earbuds on the market.
The case is designed well too it’s small and light and even though it’s on the plasticky side it feels durable enough for long-term use.
the cool little twist with this case is that it’s actually magnetic and when it’s hanging on my fridge I can’t help but see eve from wall-e which is actually one of my favorite movies.
Now Google claims that just 15 minutes inside the charging case will give you up to three full hours of listening time that’s pretty decent considering that it’s about three-quarters of a full charge I’m getting anywhere between 4 to 4 1/2 hours of battery life.
Let’s get to these buds themselves on the outside shell of these little mentos is a circular touchpad now you guys know that I don’t really like touchpads on earbuds I think physical buttons tend to be a lot more consistent overall.
But in the case of the series I’m gonna make an exception the touchpads on these are great I can very consistently tap them to do exactly what I want to do without messing up and they’re not hard to adjust in my ears without touching the touch panels either.
You can do stuff like play pause and skip tracks like normal but interestingly enough the tap and hold function does not activate the google assistant in a normal way once you tap and hold you’ll hear a chime and the google assistant will actually give you the time and read out your notifications if you have any notification.
Something you have to say is the hey google catchphrase I kind of love that they split up the assistant function in that way I find it really convenient.
The other thing that I noticed when using the Google Pixel Buds A Series is that they don’t have a whole lot of sound isolation you can still hear your surroundings fairly well and while that might be nice for certain scenarios like hearing yourself talk on the phone.
It’s bad for blocking out unwanted noise I mean that’s why a lot of wireless earbuds have active noise cancellation but unfortunately, that is not a feature with the a-series then again at the price that Google is selling these for its kind of hard to expect that kind of feature.
I think Google did a really great job given what price point that they’re selling these at the mids and highs are decent with just a little bit of distortion up on the high end of that register.
While the bass can be a little bit light for some EDM fans google is doing us a solid by giving us a bass boost preset within the pixel buds app.
Samsung Galaxy Buds 2
Hey, guys so Samsung’s unpacked event this year was quite a hit Samsung launched two foldable um updated the watch lineup, and also launched these Samsung Galaxy Buds 2.
Now when talking about wireless earbuds in general there are the high-end ones from companies like bose sony and apple and even Samsung joined this club with last year’s Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro.
which offered excellent sound quality then there are the budget ones from brands like SoundcCore, Nothing, and Realme Buds Air Pro that are affordable and have garnered a lot of attention in the market.
Although their core sound quality still leaves much to be desired enter the Galaxy buds 2 which basically tries to fill the gap between the two by offering a balance between price and quality kind of like luke skywalker bringing the balance to the force.
Okay, regardless Samsung says that the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 is the successor to the Samsung Galaxy Buds plus from 2020 and not the bird’s life that came after it at $150 these earbuds are significantly more affordable than the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro which is the absolute best that Samsung has to offer.
What’s even more impressive is that their spec sheet is quite identical anyway, let me unbox the buds too first as you can see it comes in this little square box first, there is the galaxy box to itself um keeping it aside for now we also have this mini paper box which has the charging cable and two extra pairs of ear tips and that’s basically all there is inside the box.
Okay, let’s have a look at the earbuds now and it kind of looks like a hybrid between the Samsung Galaxy Buds live and the Galaxy Buds Pro which is to say that the design is really sleek.
These earbuds weigh 5 grams each so they’re not very heavy either okay so let me put it on first all right so the pre-applied silicone ear tips fit me perfectly and deliver a tight fit as well.
So it is probably not going to fall off your ears that easily but since the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 comes with the only ipx2 certified unlike the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro with an ipx7 rating I wouldn’t recommend you wear it while exercising heavily.
Because this inferior IP certification means that these earbuds are quite vulnerable even to excess humidity besides that I am quite fond of its design actually the charging case is really really handy and portable.
There’s a battery indicator upfront while you’ll find an additional led indicator on the inside that notifies if the earbuds are charging at the back you have the USB-C charging port.
moving on these earbuds enjoy the newer Bluetooth 5.2 protocol as well as opposed to the Bluetooth 5.2 on the galaxy bots pro and it pairs with your smartphone via the “galaxy wearable app”.
In regards to connectivity it retains the auto-switch feature that was introduced with the buzz pro as well it’s like a multi-point connection but exclusive to Samsung’s galaxy ecosystem of devices under this the bots too can quickly switch between galaxy tablets smartwatches and smartphones.
Getting to controls like with other entries in the Galaxy Buds umbrella these earbuds feature a touch-enabled control mechanism as well you can play or pause music skip a track or return to the previous one with a single double and triple tap respectively.
There’s even the support for touch and hold gestures for quickly switching between ANC and Ambient modes.
But if you would want to customize that Samsung even lets you configure it for volume and voice assistant activation.
Now let’s talk about the most important thing on any earbuds the sound quality the Galaxy Buds 2 boasts a dual driver setup with a dedicated tweeter and woofers like the Galaxy Buds Pro and the Galaxy Buds Plus.
I listened to songs under the default equalizer settings and found its sound signature to be favoring the highs the base is there although it is not as thumpy as many would like um other than that the audio quality is quite reminiscent of the more expensive Galaxy Buds Pro which is quite spectacular I must say.
As I mentioned earlier these are ANC capable earbuds as well there’s also something called ambient sound mode which is Samsung’s take on transparency mode found on Apple’s AirPods Pro.
Basically what it does is it lets you hear the outside world without having to take off the earbuds even more impressively there are three levels of ambient sound mode to choose from.
Lastly, the galaxy box 2 features a triple mic setup and a voice pickup unit like the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro although it does miss out on the windshield filter Samsung even says that these earbuds deliver clearer calls through Machine Learning-based algorithm.
The battery, well these earbuds pack a 61mAh hour cell each and boast a total playback time of five hours with ANC-on and up to 7.5 hours with ANC turned off plus the 472 mAh battery on this case takes those numbers to 20 and 29 hours respectively.
In my limited time with the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2, I am quite impressed with its lightweight design and comfortable fit sound quality from my initial impression.
